8.23 Marinus Intern Post

August 23, 2024

Marinus’ Early Talent Program offers aspiring individuals the opportunity to delve into the vibrant world of the pharmaceutical industry. In partnership with Project Onramp, a project of Life Science Cares, Marinus was connected with a group of diverse students who are interested in working in the Life Sciences industry. By inviting interns to work alongside visionary leaders, we aim to encourage the next generation of scientific innovators to engage in projects that create meaningful impact. Together, we work to support Marinus’ mission of enhancing the lives of those affected by refractory seizure disorders.

Having spent the summer working across various teams at Marinus, this year’s intern cohort shared their unique learning experiences at the company. Applying their own skill sets and specialty knowledge, we are grateful for their contributions to ongoing projects and exciting developments at Marinus. Read their stories below to learn more about how our Early Talent Program can shape future career paths in the pharmaceutical industry.

Samuel Cho
IT Intern

As an IT Intern at Marinus, Samuel had the opportunity to take on many important projects this summer, including the rollout of Virtual Desktops and the ongoing integration of Microsoft Co-pilot, an artificial intelligence (AI) companion, as the company continues to leverage the positive influence of technology in the workplace.

“The rollout of Microsoft Co-pilot was an impactful project to work on as we continue to watch AI transform the workplace. I co-implemented and rolled out an AI policy for the entire company, and researched the benefits and common concerns of using AI.”

While working under the guidance of his managers, Samuel improved his adaptability and professionalism while learning to navigate office culture.

“My favorite part of my internship at Marinus was the support and instruction that I received from my manager and mentor. They ensured I never felt lost or confused and always provided me with clear directions to be a successful member of the team.”

Legal Intern

Angie Encarnacion viewed Marinus’ internship program as a perfect fit because the work closely matched the advocacy efforts she has been involved in throughout her life. Her experience in the nonprofit sector fueled her passion to work with companies dedicated to making a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

“Since the beginning of my internship at Marinus, my confidence in my career path has grown tremendously. I’ve gained valuable experience while working in the Marinus legal department and spent quality time with their lawyers, which reinforced my decision that attending law school is the right choice for me.”

Marinus provided Angie with the opportunity to voice questions and advocate for herself. Her managers were committed to involving her in the day-to-day operations of the team and provided guidance for her continued professional development as she advances in her career.

“I loved getting to know the Marinus team throughout my internship. The employees at Marinus are passionate about the work they do for the CDKL5 deficiency disorder (CDD) community”.

Clinical Intern

Hager Kotb, a Biology major and Public Health minor at Boston University, pursued an internship that would align her passion for research and patient care. Drawn to Marinus’ dedication to advancing treatments for rare epilepsies and seizure disorders, Hager joined the team to experience an atmosphere where scientific rigor and compassionate service for patients are top priority.

“Collaboration within the Clinical Operations Department was a cornerstone of my internship experience at Marinus. Each team member took the time to speak with me about how they started in their respective career paths, and what their role is at Marinus.”

With a virtual workspace, Hager found that communication and collaboration with her team was quintessential to her success this summer.

“What I enjoyed most about interning at Marinus was having one-on-one conversations with people inside and outside of my department. We attended professional workshops focused on how to be successful in our current internship and how to apply it to our professional development.”

Theresa Pham
Market Access Intern

Theresa’s decision to intern at Marinus was driven by her goal to find a program that would introduce her to a different industry and expand her knowledge of its daily functions. With a focus on rare epilepsies and innovative treatment options, Marinus’ internship program offered just that.

“As a Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business major at Saint Joseph’s University, my classes have largely revolved around the popular topics of the pharmaceutical industry today, and less about rare diseases. This summer, I had the opportunity to learn about rare diseases, which is a world that should be talked about much more.”

During her internship, Theresa had the opportunity to support the Marinus team at a patient advocacy meeting in Washington D.C., where she gained insight into the valuable partnerships Marinus nurtures.

“Supporting the team in D.C. was such an exciting and informative experience. Not only was I able to witness the interactions between Marinus and some of our key partners, but also how the different internal departments at Marinus worked together in this setting.”

As a Market Access intern, Theresa spent a large amount of time learning about Pharmacy and Patient services. She worked in tandem with the Marinus Marketing team to discover what it takes to ensure accessibility, and the importance of data analysis to work cross functionally across the teams at Marinus.

“My role this summer at Marinus has opened up countless opportunities, connected me with all kinds of people from different departments and shown me the value of collaboration and being an innovative thinker.”
